July 21, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has stepped into a prominent
diplomatic role at the United Nations, with Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad
Ishaq Dar in New York to chair a series of high-level UN Security Council
(UNSC) meetings on multilateralism, the Middle East, the Palestinian question,
and UN-OIC cooperation.
The visit also includes Pakistan’s active participation in a
global conference on the two-state solution and a string of high-level
bilateral meetings in both New York and Washington.
As part of Pakistan’s UNSC Presidency for July 2025, Dar will
chair an Open Debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security through
Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.”
The session will focus on enhancing diplomacy and promoting
conflict resolution through global cooperation.
He will also preside over the Quarterly Open Debate on the
Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.
In addition, he will lead a
high-level UNSC briefing on strengthening ties between the UN and the
Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to support international peace and
security.
To reaffirm Pakistan’s firm support for Palestinian
self-determination, the Deputy Prime Minister will attend a high-level
Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the
Implementation of the Two-State Solution.
Several bilateral engagements with international counterparts and
UN leaders are expected during his stay in New York and upcoming engagements in
Washington.
To recall, on Friday, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb
recently led high-level trade discussions in Washington with U.S. officials, emphasizing
Pakistan’s push to expand cooperation in technology, minerals, and agriculture.
These simultaneous initiatives highlight Pakistan’s active role in
both diplomatic and economic engagement on the global stage.
