November 26, 2025 (MLN): The government is focused on developing energy-efficient highways, promoting green mobility, and reducing the environmental footprint of transport operations, while ensuring safer, faster, and more reliable connectivity for citizens and regional partners, Federal Minister for Communications, Mr Abdul Aleem Khan, said on World Sustainable Transport Day.

He emphasized that Pakistan is renewing its commitment to building a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient transport system that supports economic growth while protecting the environment for future generations.

Recognizing its role as a vital regional corridor, he noted that roads and highways are not just channels of movement but drivers of sustainable development, according to the press release.

He added that the Ministry of Communications, through the National Highway Authority (NHA), is integrating eco-friendly practices, improved design standards, climate-resilient infrastructure, and efficient traffic management systems across the national road network.

Mr Abdul Aleem Khan also highlighted Pakistan’s reaffirmation of the vision for “Green and Digital CAREC” at the recent CAREC Forum, stressing the need for sustainable corridors, smart transport solutions, and digitally enabled infrastructure to enhance regional connectivity, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen climate resilience.

Finally, he commended the efforts of engineers, planners, workers, and development partners who are modernizing Pakistan’s transport sector in line with global sustainability goals.
