PSX Closing Bell: A Surge to Remember

June 24, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 122,246.63, showing an increase of 6,079.16 points or 5.23%.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 122,725.21 (+6,557.74) and a low of 120,369.53 (+4,202.06) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 318.30 million shares.

The rally came after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel is “NOW IN EFFECT,” following a series of final missile exchanges between the two nations.

“The CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump declared on his social media platform, Truth Social.

He had earlier outlined that the truce would follow a phased process over 24 hours, beginning at approximately 0400 GMT Tuesday, with Iran halting its operations first, followed by Israel 12 hours later.

Earlier in the day, at 11:26 AM, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) had temporarily halted trading after the KSE-30 Index surged by 5.26%, and the KSE-100 Index jumped 5.06% or 5,878.15 points to reach 112,045.62.

The halt was triggered by intense buying pressure, which continued throughout the session.

PSX resumed trading at 12:31 AM. At that point, the KSE-100 Index posted a gain of 5.54%, or 6,430.08 points, reaching 112,597.56. The total volume at that time stood at 146.68 million shares, reflecting strong buying interest in the market.

Of the 100 index companies 96 closed up, 2 closed down, while 2 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were YOUW (+10.19%), PTC (+10.02%), FCCL (+10.01%), GHGL (+10.01%), and BNWM (+10.01%).

On the other hand, top losers were FHAM (-9.56%), PKGP (-0.77%), and ABL (+0.25%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were LUCK (+437.40pts), ENGROH (+411.73pts), UBL (+329.16pts), PPL (+311.18pts), and OGDC (+305.28pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were FHAM (-7.12pts), PKGP (-6.02pts), and PGLC (+0.55pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+1231.81pts), Cement (+983.82pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+891.71pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+443.09pts), and Fertilizer (+382.54pts).

While the index was let down by Modarabas (-7.12pts), Leasing Companies (+0.55pts), and Woollen (+0.98pts).

 

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 76,223.89 with a net gain of 3,703.45 points or 5.11%.

Total market volume was 804.78 million shares compared to 595.01m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs37.61 billion showing an increase of Rs14.13bn.

There were 335,619 trades reported in 477 companies with 407 closing up, 35 closing down, and 35 remaining unchanged.

 To note, the KSE-100 has gained 43,802 points or 55.84% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 7,120 points or 6.18% so far this calendar year.
