PSX halted as buying spree triggers upper lock

June 24, 2025 (MLN): Amid major buying pressure, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has halted trading as the KSE-30 Index surged by 5.26%, while the benchmark KSE-100 Index jumped 5.06% or 5,878.15 points to reach 112,045.62 at 11:26 AM.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 146.68 million shares. 

The halt followed a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran after 12 days of conflict, as disclosed by U.S. President Donald Trump on June 23.

This development came just a day after Pope Leo XIV cautioned world leaders that they were nearing an “irreparable abyss.”

Trump shared the development on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that the ceasefire would be phased in over the next 24 hours as both nations completed “their in progress, final missions.”

He described the agreement as bringing an “Official END” to the war.

“During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL,” Trump wrote.

Top gainers were PTC (+10.02%), GHGL (+10.01%), TGL (+10.00%), PIOC (+10.00%), and PAEL (+10.00%).

On the other hand, top losers were TPLRF1 (-2.84%), MEHT (-2.13%), FHAM (-0.59%), and JDWS (-0.43%).

 

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were LUCK (+432.66pts), ENGROH (+389.80pts), UBL (+327.97pts), MARI (+276.78pts), and OGDC (+270.52pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were TPLRF1 (-14.36pts), MEHT (-4.74pts), and FHAM (-0.44pts).

 

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+1240.39pts), Cement (+981.53pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+834.46pts), Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. (+425.50pts), and Fertilizer (+405.14pts).

While the index was let down by Real Estate Investment Trust (-9.53pts), Modarabas (-0.44pts), and Woollen (+0.31pts).

Total market volume was 383.91 million shares compared to 595.01m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs17.60 billion showing a decrease of Rs5.88bn.
