PKR appreciates by 3 paisa against USD

August 21, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) increased by 2.93 paisa or 0.01% against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 281.92 per USD, compared to previous closing of 281.95.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 283 and a low (ask) of 284.2.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 283.90 for buying and 284.40 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR depreciated 24.78 paisa or 0.08% against the Euro, closing at 328.58 compared to the previous value of 328.33.

Against the British Pound, PKR rose by 1.07 rupees or 0.28% to 379.75 compared to 380.82 a day ago.

The local unit weakened 1.31 rupees or 0.37% against Swiss franc to close at 350.17.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value fell 0.03 paisa or 0.02% to close the session at 1.9102 versus 1.9099 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee increased 0.40 paisa or 0.01% against Chinese Yuan to close at 39.28 from 39.28.

The local currency increased by 0.98 paisa or 0.01% against Saudi Riyal to 75.12. While it increased by 1.01 paisa or 0.01% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.76.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has appreciated against the US Dollar by 1.84 rupees or 0.65%. While it has deteriorated 3.37 rupees or 1.20% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 2bps to 10.79% and 11.04%.
