PKR strengthens marginally against USD

September 22, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in Tuesday’s interbank trading session, appreciating by 0.90 paisa to close at PKR 277.21 per dollar, compared with Monday’s closing rate of PKR 277.22.

During the session, the rupee traded between an intraday high bid of 277.25 and a low ask of 277.20.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 278.30 for selling.

The local currency also strengthened against several major currencies. Against the euro, the PKR gained Rs1.31 or 0.41% to settle at 317.04, compared with 318.35 in the previous session.

The rupee appreciated by Rs1.41 or 0.38% against the British pound, closing at 369.71 versus 371.12 a day earlier.

Against the Japanese yen, the local unit strengthened by 0.62 paisa or 0.35% to close at 1.7576, compared with 1.7638 previously.

The PKR also gained 4.02 paisa or 0.10% against the Chinese yuan, ending the session at 41.36 compared with 41.40 a day ago.

Meanwhile, the rupee weakened by 25.54 paisa or 0.08% against the Swiss franc to close at 337.18.

Against the Saudi riyal, the local currency declined by 1.04 paisa or 0.01% to 73.81, while it gained 0.24 paisa or 0.00% against the UAE dirham to settle at 75.48.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has appreciated by 94.76 paisa or 0.34% against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.91 or 1.05%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 11.72% and 11.97%, respectively.
