PKR edges up to 277.26 against USD

September 17, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar during Thursday’s interbank trading session, settling at PKR 277.26 per USD compared to the previous close of PKR 277.27.

The local currency traded within a narrow range during the session, touching an intraday high (bid) of 277.30 and a low (ask) of 277.25.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 278.30 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee recorded gains across the board. It strengthened by Rs2.06, or 0.64%, against the Euro to close at PKR 318.06, compared to 320.12 in the previous session.

The PKR appreciated by Rs2.42, or 0.65%, against the British Pound, closing at PKR 371.10 versus 373.53 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss Franc, the local currency gained Rs2.80, or 0.83%, to settle at PKR 335.97.

The rupee also strengthened against the Japanese Yen by 0.92 paisa, or 0.51%, closing at 1.7794 compared to 1.7886 previously.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the PKR gained 1.35 paisa, or 0.03%, to close at 41.33 from 41.34.

The local unit appreciated by 1.20 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi Riyal to close at 73.81, while it weakened by 0.70 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.50.

During the current fiscal year, the PKR has strengthened by 89.81 paisa, or 0.32%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the rupee has appreciated by Rs2.86, or 1.03%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 2 basis points to 11.73% and 11.98%, respectively.
