OGDC revives Kunnar-3 well

August 25, 2025 (MLN): In a significant step towards boosting domestic energy production, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (PSX:OGDC) has successfully revived the Kunnar-3 well in the Kunnar Oil Field, which had remained non-operational since 2022.

The well has been restored to production and is currently yielding 330 barrels of oil per day along with 2.1 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to OGDC on X (formerly Twitter).

Lately, the company is deploying artificial lift systems such as Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) and other techniques to enhance oil recovery that could enable the company to drain up to 70% of reserves, compared to the current rate of around 30%

In parallel with its production optimization initiatives, OGDC is also advancing its participation in the Reko Diq copper and gold project, where its funding commitment has risen to $715m following a cost revision to $3.5bn.

The project is expected to begin production in 2029 and can act as the company’s long-term growth and diversification strategy.
