Govt to provide free saplings for monsoon tree drive

July 22, 2025 (MLN): To ensure wider participation and environmental sustainability, the government has decided to provide free saplings and prioritize native, climate-resilient species for the upcoming Monsoon Tree Plantation Campaign.

The above was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, to finalize the strategy and coordination mechanisms for the national plantation drive.

The meeting was convened to finalize strategy and coordination mechanisms for the upcoming national plantation drive.

The session was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Ms. Aisha Humera Moriani, and Secretary of Inter-Provincial Coordination, Mr. Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani.

Members of the National Assembly Ms. Zahra Fatemi and Ms. Saba Sadiq, along with senior officers from relevant departments and stakeholders, were also present.

The participants reviewed the overall plan for tree plantation across Islamabad Capital Territory and the provinces, with a special focus on mobilizing students, schools, public sector organizations, and the general public.

The Minister emphasized that August to October is the optimal window for plantation, and called for timely preparations to ensure full advantage of the monsoon season.

The meeting also deliberated on mechanisms for the free provision of saplings to ensure wider participation and accessibility.
