July 31, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has approved the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025, a transformative initiative aimed at building a robust AI ecosystem to modernize public services.

The policy targets training one million AI professionals by 2030, launching 50,000 AI-powered civic projects, developing 1,000 local AI products, awarding 3,000 annual scholarships, and investing in critical AI infrastructure across sectors.

Described as a revolutionary step by Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima, the policy is designed to bring AI-driven progress not only to the IT industry but across health, education, trade, and the wider economy.

The It minister emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring every citizen benefits from AI advancements, with a strong focus on equity and accessibility, said a press release issued today.

Special emphasis has been placed on empowering youth and preparing them for future-ready, market-oriented careers through startup funding and nationwide AI education initiatives.

The policy prioritizes inclusion, offering support for women and differently-abled individuals, and ensures strong cybersecurity protections through AI-enhanced systems.

Data privacy, national security, and responsible innovation have been integrated into the framework to maintain ethical and regulatory alignment with international standards. The plan also calls for strategic global partnerships to accelerate AI adoption and innovation.

Implementation will be overseen by a newly formed AI Council supported by a comprehensive Master Plan and Action Matrix.

The Prime Minister lauded the efforts of the Ministry of IT, stating that the policy will play a central role in enhancing productivity and governance while unlocking new opportunities in agriculture, industry, and digital public services.
