Government, Judiciary discuss tax dispute resolution, reforms

August 12, 2025 (MLN): To discuss ongoing judicial reforms and the timely resolution of tax-related disputes, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, met with Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, at the Supreme Court.

The Chief Justice highlighted initiatives to improve access to justice, modernize court systems, categorize tax-related cases, and enhance service delivery through technology-driven reforms.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring the success of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism to expedite tax dispute settlements, urging continued government support.

He also informed the Finance Minister about ongoing training sessions at the Judicial Academy for judicial officers and SECP members, with plans to extend similar training to officers of the Competition Commission of Pakistan.

The Finance Minister appreciated the judiciary’s reform agenda and assured the government’s cooperation in providing resources for judicial development projects, according to the press release issued.

Both leaders underscored the need for coordinated efforts between the judiciary and the executive to uphold the rule of law and protect citizens’ fundamental rights.
