Yearly Inflation at 4.17 Percent in April

The PBS released the Inflation figures for April, following is the summary of their release.

  • CPI inflation General increased by 4.2% on year-on-year basis in April 2016 as compared to an increase of 3.9% in the previous month and 2.1% in April 2015. On month-on-month basis, it increased by 1.6% in April 2016 as compared to increase of 0.2% in the previous month and an increase of 1.3% in April 2015.
  • Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 4.4% on (YoY) basis in April 2016 as compared to increase of 4.7% in the previous month and 5.4% in April 2015. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 1.1% in April 2016 as compared to increase of 0.2% in previous month and increase of 1.4% in April 2015.
  • Core inflation, measured by 20% weighted trimmed mean CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 3.8% on (YoY) basis in April 2016 as compared to 3.8% in the previous month and by 3.1% in April 2015. On (MoM) basis, it increased by 0.6% in April 2016 as compared to an increase of 0.2% in the previous month and 0.6% in April 2015.
  • SPI inflation on YoY increased by 2.9% in April 2016 as compared to an increase of 3.5% a month earlier and decrease of 1.6% in April 2015. On MoM basis, it decreased by 0.1% in April 2016 as compared to a decrease of 0.2% a month earlier and an increase of 0.4% in April 2015.
  • WPI inflation on YoY basis increased by 0.6% in April 2016 as compared to an increase of 0.2% a month earlier and a decrease of 2.9% in April 2015. WPI inflation on MoM basis increased by 1.3% in April 2016 as compared to decrease of 0.4% a month earlier and an increase of 0.9% in April 2015.
