Weekly SPI inflates by 0.3 percent

April 15, 2019 (MLN): The weekly Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the combined group Inched up by 0.3% during the week ended April 11, 2019, whereas SPI compared to the same period last year has marked a rise of 12%.

Weekly report on inflation published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has shown that the largest income group (Above Rs.35, 000) has recorded the largest rise in SPI over the year (16.3%), among all other groups. However, this category also recorded the smallest rise over the week (0.27%)

Compared to corresponding period of last year, two groups (up to Rs.8, 000 and between Rs.12, 001 – Rs.18, 000) recorded the smallest rise in inflation among all other groups, that of 8.97%.

However, as compared to last week, the largest rise in inflation is recorded among the smallest income group (Up to Rs.8, 000).

Out of the 53 monitored items, the average price of 23 items rose, 8 items registered decline whereas the remaining 22 items recorded no change

The average price of Sona urea currently stands at Rs.1, 823 per 50 kg bag which is 0.42% higher than last week’s price and 28.4% higher than last year.

Meanwhile, Cement price is currently quoted at Rs.597 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.72% lower than last week and 7.92% higher than last year’s price.
