PKR gains further ground against USD

August 25, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged higher against the US dollar on Tuesday, extending its gains in the interbank market as the local currency settled at PKR 277.52 per USD.

The PKR appreciated by 2.87 paisa compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 277.55 per dollar.

During the session, the currency traded between an intraday high (bid) of PKR 277.60 and a low (ask) of PKR 277.50.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 278.55 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee recorded a mixed performance.

The local unit gained 10.30 paisa, or 0.03%, against the Euro, closing at PKR 323.59 compared with PKR 323.69 in the previous session.

However, it weakened against the British Pound, depreciating by 15.51 paisa, or 0.04%, to PKR 378.42, against the previous closing of PKR 378.26.

The rupee also strengthened by 48.74 paisa, or 0.14%, against the Swiss Franc, settling at PKR 345.26.

Meanwhile, against the Japanese Yen, the local currency appreciated by 0.22 paisa, or 0.13%, to PKR 1.7403, compared with PKR 1.7425 a day earlier.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee gained 0.18 paisa, closing at PKR 41.28.

The local currency further appreciated by 0.86 paisa against the Saudi Riyal, settling at PKR 73.92, while it gained 0.16 paisa against the UAE Dirham to close at PKR 75.56.

So far in the current fiscal year, the Pakistani rupee has strengthened by 63.86 paisa, or 0.23%, against the US dollar. During the calendar year to date, it has gained PKR 2.60, or 0.94%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates (KIBOR) remained unchanged at 11.56% and 11.81%, respectively.
