Weekly inflation increases by 1.8%

March 24, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group has increased by 1.8% during the week ended on March 22, 2023, while the SPI increased by 46.65% compared to the corresponding period from last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The Combined Index was at 250.66 compared to 246.22 on March 16, 2023, while the index was recorded at 170.92 a year ago, on March 24, 2022

Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 26 items increased, 12 items decreased whereas 13 items registered no change during the week.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 1.21% and 2.9%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 2.9% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 1.21%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 43.62% and 48.35%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 43.62% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 48.35%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs.2876 per 50 kg bag which is 0.76% lower than last week’s price and 45.77% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average cement price was recorded at Rs.1125 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.18% higher than the previous week and 30.51% higher than prices last year.
