Urea sales take off by 19%, YoY in March 2019

April 24, 2019 (MLN): National Fertilizers Development Centre (NFDC) has released its monthly report on fertilizer offtake in which urea sales are shown to have increased by 19.4% in March 2019 as compared to March 2018, as the total offtake stands at 408.5 thousand tonnes.

During the 6 months of Rabi 2018-19 (October 2018 – March 2019), the total available urea was 3.143 million tonnes, comprising of an opening balance of 115 thousand tonnes, domestic production of 2.923 million tonnes and 105 thousand tonnes of imported supplies.

The total urea offtake on the other hand has been recorded at 3.03 million tonnes which is 3% higher than the urea offtake recorded in the same period last year.

The greatest demand for urea in March, came from the province of Punjab where 298 thousand tonnes were sold which showed a 15% growth in consumption over the year.

From the remaining amount, 67 thousand tonnes were sold in Sindh, 27 thousand tonnes in KP and 16 thousand tonnes in Baluchistan.

Compared to last year, the highest enhancement in urea demand is witnessed for Sindh where urea sales grew by 51%, year-on-year. Meanwhile, demand in KP rose by 15% and that in Baluchistan grew by 16%, over the year.
