October 15, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and Oman have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, exchanging six agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during the eighth session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received visiting Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi and witnessed the exchange of the agreements during the JMC session, according to official statements.

During the meeting, the prime minister highlighted the shared faith, geographical proximity, historical ties, cultural links and centuries-old people-to-people exchanges that underpin relations between the two countries.

He described Oman as a brotherly nation, an important maritime neighbour and a valuable partner in a strategically significant region, according to APP.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the successful convening of the JMC session, saying it would provide a foundation for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.

He also noted that Pakistan and Oman share common perspectives on regional and international issues and appreciated Oman’s emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy to resolve disputes.

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr thanked the Pakistani government for its hospitality and welcomed the successful conclusion of the JMC session.

He expressed confidence that the meeting would facilitate greater collaboration across various sectors and acknowledged Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions and promote peaceful solutions.

The six agreements and MoUs cover several areas of cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his Omani counterpart signed the protocol recording the minutes of the eighth JMC session, an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, official and service passports, and an MoU on records and archives.

The remaining three MoUs concern cooperation in information and broadcasting, information technology and telecommunications, and news exchange and media cooperation. The respective federal ministers for information and broadcasting and IT and telecommunication signed these instruments.

Ishaq Dar is co-chairing the JMC session with the visiting Omani foreign minister.

The agreements are expected to provide additional avenues for engagement and reinforce the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Oman through cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
