October 15, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan-Türkiye relations should be
strengthened further, with a focus on reaching the agreed $5bn bilateral trade
target, expanding investment and deepening cooperation in strategic and
emerging technology sectors.
President Asif Ali Zardari made these
remarks while speaking to Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Türkiye, who
called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad, said a press release issued.
He congratulated her on her new posting and praised her successful tenure
as Foreign Secretary.
The President said Pakistan places great importance on its longstanding
ties with Türkiye, which rest on shared values, cultural affinities and a
common aspiration for peace and prosperity.
He called for stronger cooperation in energy, agriculture, livestock,
mining, ship-breaking, information technology, defence industries and special
economic zones.
Closer links between universities, more people-to-people exchanges and
the promotion of cultural ties and tourism were also on his list, with Pakistan
looking to benefit from Türkiye’s expertise in the tourism sector.
President Zardari asked the Ambassador-designate to stay closely engaged
with the Pakistani diaspora, students and businesses in Türkiye, and to ensure
effective consular outreach and timely help when needed.
He also pointed to the need for better coordination and
information-sharing between Pakistani and Turkish institutions to tackle human
smuggling.
He asked her to convey his warm regards to Turkish President Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan when she presents her credentials, and wished her success in her new
assignment.
