Trade deficit improves by 13.62 percent during July-May of FY19

Jun 18, 2019 (MLN): Pakistan's trade deficit for 11 months (July-May) FY19 was USD 29.21 billion compared to a deficit of USD 33.81 billion from the corresponding period from FY18.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the trade deficit for the month of May 2019 was recorded at USD 2.94 billion compared to a deficit of USD2.659 billion from April 2019 showing that the deficit worsened by 10.57 percent.

Compared to May 2018's deficit of USD 3.643 billion, the trade numbers improved by 19.3 percent

Exports increased by 0.38 percent to USD 2.102 billion compared to USD 2.094 billion in April 2019.

However compared to May 2018 exports decreased by 1.73 percent

Imports in May 2019 increased by 6.08 percent, clocking in at USD 5.042 billion compared to USD 4.753 billion in April 2019.

However compared to May 2018 imports decreased by 12.8 percent

Overall the 11 month exports stood at USD 21.267 billion compared to USD 21.33 from the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.3 percent. Similarly Imports during the period decreased by 8.47 percent to USD 50.474 billion compared to USD 55.142 from the same period of FY18.
