Total Foreign Investment in Pakistan declines significantly by 65% MoM

March 16, 2020 (MLN): Total Foreign Investment into the country in the month of February 2020 stood at USD 562.6 million compared to a Foreign Investment of USD 1.613 billion in January 2020, showing a significant decline of 65% MoM.

Of the amount, the largest decrease was the USD 321.5 million invested into Government securities, notably T-Bills which came through Foreign Public Investment. In the previous month, USD 1.38 billion worth of investment witnessed in debt securities.

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Foreign Private investment (FPI) decreased by 7 per cent to USD 241.1 million compared to USD 225.9 million in the previous month.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) witnessed an inflow of USD 322.5 million and an outflow of USD 43.6 million, making the net FDI for the month USD 289 million. Foreign Private Investment (Portfolio) witnessed an outflow of USD 47.9 million compared to an inflow of 2.8 million in the previous month.
