PM Shehbaz reaffirms close ties with Bosnia & Herzegovina

September 23, 2026 (MLN):  Pakistan and Bosnia & Herzegovina agreed to work towards elevating their bilateral relations into a robust, broad-based partnership anchored in trade and economic cooperation, with both sides reviewing the entire spectrum of political, economic, defence, skilled labour mobility, education and cultural ties.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Dr. Denis Bećirović on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, where the two leaders held a frank exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, said a press release issed.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance Pakistan attaches to its historically close and fraternal ties with Bosnia & Herzegovina, reaffirming Pakistan's strong support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressing that regional stability depended on a strong, stable and prosperous Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Congratulating Dr. Bećirović on the formal opening of Bosnia & Herzegovina's EU accession talks, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan viewed the country as a potential regional trade and connectivity hub for Pakistani goods entering European and Western Balkan markets.

Dr. Bećirović, in turn, praised Pakistan's mediation role in facilitating de-escalation and normalization in West Asia and the Gulf region, and extended full support for Pakistan's position on the illegality of holding the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance.

The two leaders agreed to remain in contact to advance bilateral relations further, including through an exchange of high-level visits between the two countries going forward.
