PM , Bill Gates reaffirm commitment to polio eradication

September 23, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Gates Foundation Chairman Bill Gates on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2026) in New York on September 23, 2026.

The Prime Minister appreciated the Gates Foundation’s cooperation with Pakistan in polio eradication, maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, digitalization and financial inclusion.

Referring to the Gates Foundation team’s recent visit to Pakistan earlier this month, the Prime Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to completely eradicate polio from the country.

He thanked the Gates Foundation for its longstanding support toward this important objective and expressed his personal commitment to achieving complete eradication of polio.

Bill Gates appreciated Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to eradicate polio under the Prime Minister’s leadership, saying that complete eradication of the disease is extremely important to protect future generations.

He also appreciated the personal guidance provided by the Prime Minister to provincial governments regarding the polio vaccination programme across the country.
