Textile Imports up 10.69 percent in May, 2018

According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), total textile imports during the month of May clocked in at $397.698 million; posting an incline of 10.69 percent from April’s imports of $359.274 million.

Compared to that, year on year growth in the Textile imports went up by more than 11 percent during the month of May. The total imports during the month of May 2018 against May 2017 grew by $42.094 million.

Textile items imported to Pakistan mainly include Raw Cotton, Synthetic Fibre, Synthetic and Artificial Silk, Worn Clothing and other Textile Items.

The major chunk of imports under the Textile head was mainly in the Raw Cotton which contributed a total of 41.77 percent of the entire imports. Total Raw Cotton imported during the month of May, 2018 clocked in by $166.120 million grew from $129.946 million same month last year.

PBS data reveals the second major chunk of imports under the Textile head was mainly in the Synthetic and Artificial Silk which contributed a total of 16.86 percent of the entire imports. Synthetic and Artificial Silk imported during the month of May, 2018 clocked in at $67.052 million rise from $53.741 million same month last year.

Furthermore, year on year imports in other textile items went down by 10.32 percent during May, 2018 with a month on month increase by 43.86 percent.

Total Synthetic Fibre imports clocked in at $67.052 million, shrank by 3.71 percent to 47.002 million during the period May 2018.
