Soybean imports during July – Feb ’18 up by 84.66 percent

Soybean imports in the country have grown by more than 84 percent during the first eight months of fiscal year 2018 as the total imports clocked in at $ 107.487 thousand as compared to $ 58.209 thousand during the same period last year.

Year on year Soybean imports during the month of February 2018 grew by 1,753 percent against February, 2017 last year, however, month on month imports against January, 2018 decreased by 15 percent after total imports for February clocked in at 2,261 metric tons against 4,560 metric tons in January 2018.

Overall, food group imports during the cumulative eight months of fiscal year 2018 went up by 6.32 percent reaching $ 4.216 million against $ 3.965 million during the same period last year.

Quantity wise, imports during the eight months of FY ’18 in food group commodities other than soybean oil, spices +12.62 percent, palm oil +8.88 percent and Milk (Cream & Milk Food) +3.72 percent also went up.

On the contrary, imports in during the eight months of FY ’18 pulses went down by -41.11 percent reaching 535.431 thousand and Dry (Fruits & Nuts)  imports also went down by 16.88 percent clocking in at 93.611 thousand during the period
