SBP to remain closed on Feb 08 as voters head to polls

February 06, 2024 (MLN): The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will remain closed on February 8, 2024, i.e., Thursday, being a public holiday in the country as notified by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the latest notice issued by the central bank showed.

“In exercise of powers conferred under Article 218 of the Constitution […] Election Commission of Pakistan is pleased to declare public holiday on February 08 in the country,” the ECP earlier said in a statement.

The decision was taken to enable voters to exercise their right of franchise freely and conveniently in General Election 2024, it added.
