PSX Closing Bell: Opportunities

December 17, 2024 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index concluded Tuesday's trading session at 114,860.68, showing a decrease of 1,308.73 points or 1.13%.

The index traded in a range of 3,350.63 points showing an intraday high of 117,039.17 (+869.76) and a low of 113,688.54 (-2,480.87) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 548.57 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 32 closed up, and 68 closed down.

Top losers during the day were MARI (-10.00%), GHGL (-6.85%), DGKC (-5.79%), TGL (-5.60%), and MLCF (-5.40%).

On the other hand, top gainers were AIRLINK (+9.39%), PAEL (+8.51%), HUBC (+8.23%), POML (+7.43%), and BOP (+5.78%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that dragged the index lower were MARI (-703.86pts), FFC (-489.68pts), OGDC (-223.43pts), LUCK (-161.12pts), and PPL (-120.82pts).

Meanwhile, companies that added points to the index were HUBC (+335.98pts), UBL (+246.64pts), MCB (+155.40pts), BAHL (+140.42pts), and BAFL (+87.87pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (-966.08pts), Fertilizer (-644.48pts), Cement (-371.26pts), Oil & Gas Marketing Companies (-120.33pts), and Pharmaceuticals (-113.37pts).

While the index was supported by Commercial Banks (+889.22pts), Power Generation & Distribution (+310.78pts), Cable & Electrical Goods (+41.69pts), Refinery (+12.06pts), and Tobacco (+10.89pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 72,340.03 with a net loss of 1,133.59 points or 1.54%.

Total market volume was 1,252.98 million shares compared to 1,470.66m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs62.72 billion showing a decrease of Rs3.91bn.

There were 526,463 trades reported in 469 companies with 134 closing up, 296 closing down, and 39 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 36,416 points or 46.42% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 52,410 points or 83.92% so far this calendar year.
