PSX Closing Bell: Not Pretty Enough

April 03, 2023 (MLN): Pakistan equities kicked off the week on a positive note but in the absence of positive triggers, the investors opted to remain on the sideline in the later hours. 

In addition to it, the possible hike in the policy rate in tomorrow's MPC meeting has further dented investors' sentiments. 

Accordingly, the Benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session with a loss of 110.93 points to close at 39,889.90.

The Index traded in a range of 212.65 points or 0.53 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 40,076.66 and a low of 39,864.01.

Of the 87 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 34 closed up 51 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 33.19 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Cement with 41 points, Fertilizer with 28 points, Commercial Banks with 27 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 21 points and Automobile Assembler with 19 points.

The most points taken off the index was by FFC which stripped the index of 25 points followed by ENGRO with 18 points, MTL, BAHL and PAKT with 17 points each.

Sectors propping up the index were Technology & Communication with 28 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 26 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 16 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 4 points and Chemical with 3 points.

The most points added to the index were by SYS which contributed 24 points followed by DAWH with 20 points, POL with 17 points, FATIMA with 12 points and TRG with 8 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 37.77mn to 74.43mn shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs21.40 billion.

The total companies traded were 298 compared to 294 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 109 closed up, 167 closed down and 22 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 4,412 to 45,101.

Value Traded decreased by 2.18bn to Rs1.75bn.
