September 11, 2023 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 index opened the week with a slightly bearish tone, closing Monday's trading session at 45,865.73, reflecting a decrease of 147.75 points or 0.32% compared to the previous session.

The index was unable to hold above the key 46,000 level, indicating some resistance in the market. Investors are closely monitoring the market conditions, with the key focus on the upcoming Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting scheduled for September 14.

The index traded in a range of 496.53 points showing an intraday high of 46,174.68 (+161.19) and a low of 45,678.15 (-335.34) points.

Total Volume of the KSE100 Index was 140.184 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 31 closed up, 56 closed down, 4 were unchanged while 9 remained untraded.

KSE100 Index was let down by Commercial Banks with 67.17, Fertilizer with 51.98, Cement with 23.3, Textile Composite with 19.51 and Chemical with 11.04 points.

Companies dragging the index lower were UBL with 35.62, ENGRO with 34.71, POL with 27.36, MCB with 16.69 and EFERT with 14.86 points.

KSE100 index was supported by Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 25.84, Miscellaneous with 17.29, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 12.74, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 6.98 and Transport with 3.7 points.

Companies adding points to the index were PPL with 32.06, SNGP with 20.1, PSEL with 16.27, DAWH with 13.85 and SEARL with 5.6 points.

On the economic front, the latest workers' remittances data showed a drop of 23.74% YoY in August to $2.09 billion, while an increase of 3.15% MoM compared to July's $2.03 billion.

Additionally, the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) continued to maintain its strong performance in both the interbank and the open market.

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 30,620.74 with a net loss of 77.22 points.

Total market volume was 213.198 million shares compared to 149.572 from the previous session while traded value being recorded at 8.19 billion showing an increase of Rs.2.64 billion.

There was 95,897 trades reported in 304 companies with 113 closing up, 171 closing down and 20 remaining unchanged.
