PSX Closing Bell: Don't Stop Me Now

May 12, 2025 (MLN):  In a historic trading session, the benchmark KSE-100 Index surged by 10,123.10 points or 9.45%, closing at 117,297.73 on Monday, marking one of the largest single-day gains in Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) history.

The sharp rally was driven by the IMF's approval of the next loan tranche and the announcement of a ceasefire in the region, significantly lifting investor confidence and triggering aggressive buying across sectors.

The index remained positive throughout the day, showing an intraday high of 117,327.78 (+10,153.15). 

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 345.35 million shares.

Of the 100 index companies 99 closed up, 0 closed down, while 1 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were YOUW (+16.20%), CNERGY (+15.58%), KEL (+13.72%), PIBTL (+13.12%), and BOP (+10.97%).

On the other hand, top losers were IBFL (+0.00%), NESTLE (+0.64%), PKGP (+2.82%), INDU (+2.92%), and MEHT (+3.44%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were FFC (+963.60pts), UBL (+667.67pts), ENGROH (+487.42pts), MARI (+463.97pts), and LUCK (+451.04pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were IBFL (+0.00pts), PGLC (+0.42pts), BNWM (+0.44pts), YOUW (+1.42pts), and POML (+1.96pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Commercial Banks (+2516.00pts), Fertilizer (+1380.97pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+1374.94pts), Cement (+1039.23pts), and Power Generation & Distribution (+535.03pts).

While the index was let down by Synthetic & Rayon (+0.00pts), Leasing Companies (+0.42pts), Woollen (+0.44pts), Textile Weaving (+1.42pts), and Vanaspati & Allied Industries (+1.96pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share Index closed at 72,310.03 with a net gain of 5,796.56 points or 8.71%.

Total market volume was 732.88 million shares compared to 516.30m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs30.38 billion showing an increase of Rs1.54bn.

There were 221,214 trades reported in 461 companies with 403 closing up, 26 closing down, and 32 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 38,853 points or 49.53% during the fiscal year, whereas it has increased 2,171 points or 1.89% so far this calendar year.
