July 18, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan stocks extended their rally on Thursday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index jumping 684.26 points or 0.84% to a record high of 81,839.86.

The index remained positive throughout the day showing an intraday high of 81,909.94 (+754.34) and a low of 81,418.11 (+262.51) points.

The total volume of the KSE-100 Index was 238.79 million shares.

On Monday, the index surged over 1,211 points or 1.5% to close at a record high of 81,155.6 after the nation secured a $7 billion loan deal from the International Monetary Fund over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the market was closed on Tuesday and Wednesday on account of Ashura holidays.

In today's session, of the 100 index companies 65 closed up, 32 closed down, while 3 were unchanged.

Top gainers during the day were AVN (+9.51%), THALL (+7.17%), PAEL (+5.41%), PTC (+5.30%), and JVDC (+4.97%).

On the other hand, top losers were PAKT (-6.88%), PKGP (-5.53%), SCBPL (-5.27%), DCR (-2.31%), and AKBL (-2.19%).

In terms of index-point contributions, companies that propped up the index were ENGRO (+120.27pts), UBL (+106.31pts), OGDC (+82.15pts), MTL (+58.66pts), and MEBL (+55.60pts).

Meanwhile, companies that dragged the index lower were PAKT (-27.93pts), BAHL (-27.49pts), PKGP (-24.54pts), HMB (-23.57pts), and SCBPL (-21.38pts).

Sector-wise, KSE-100 Index was supported by Fertilizer (+170.71pts), Oil & Gas Exploration Companies (+159.34pts), Commercial Banks (+109.30pts), Technology & Communication (+90.52pts), and Automobile Assembler (+66.38pts).

While the index was let down by Power Generation & Distribution (-46.71pts), Tobacco (-27.93pts), Pharmaceuticals (-15.60pts), Real Estate Investment Trust (-6.73pts), and Insurance (-4.37pts).

In the broader market, the All-Share index closed at 51,773.28 with a net gain of 299.38 points or 0.58%.

Total market volume was 470.31 million shares compared to 441.34m from the previous session while traded value was recorded at Rs25.35 billion showing a decrease of Rs1.88bn.

There were 289,235 trades reported in 456 companies with 241 closing up, 155 closing down, and 60 remaining unchanged.

To note, the KSE-100 has gained 3,395 points or 4.33% during the fiscal year, whereas the ongoing calendar year has witnessed a cumulative increase of 19,389 points, equivalent to 31.05%.
