PMEX starts week with 13.37% dip in trading activity

April 09, 2024 (MLN): The Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX) kicked off the week on a weaker note on Monday as the trading activity decreased by 13.37% DoD to clock in at Rs31.27 billion compared to the previous close of Rs36bn. 

At the same time, with a drop in the number of lots traded, 23,476 lots changed hands, compared to the 24,171 on Friday.

However, the commodity exchange closed at 10,481, up by 0.25% DoD.

Gold continued to stay in the spotlight, contributing significantly to the trading volume with transactions worth Rs20.87 billion. Following closely behind, NSDQ 100 recorded trading valued at Rs1.96bn.

Currencies through COTS also made a prominent spot, clocking in at Rs1.87bn. In addition, Platinum, Crude Oil, and Silver attracted substantial attention from investors as well and their transactions stood at Rs1.94bn, Rs1.7bn, and Rs2.03bn, respectively.

Moreover, transactions of Natural Gas transactions reached Rs161.2 million, DJ at Rs65.45m, Copper at Rs408m, SP 500 at Rs165m, and Brent at Rs47.8m.

In the agricultural commodities segment, Cotton saw active trading, with 09 lots amounting to Rs10.92m changing hands.
