March 17, 2024 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assigned the portfolio of Power to Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari in place of the portfolio of Railways.

Accordingly, Mr Musadiq Malik, Federal Minister for Petroleum, has been relieved of the additional portfolio of Power.

Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari is a former lawmaker who served as a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly from 2002-07, 2011-13, and 2013-18. His father, Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari, was Pakistan’s president from 1993-97.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif included him in a 19-member federal cabinet.

One significant development accompanying the cabinet reshuffle is the separation of the Petroleum and Power divisions, which were previously combined into one portfolio.
