PKR surges ahead, increases by 27 paisa vs USD

December 28, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 26.67 paisa against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 281.93 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 282.2 per USD.

The Currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 282.19 and a low (ask) of 282.

In the open market, Exchange Companies quoted the dollar at 280.21 for buying and 282.68 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR lost 1.88 rupees against the Euro, closing at 313.48 compared to the previous value of 311.6.

The British Pound became expensive by 2.14 rupees closing at 361.41 compared to 359.27 from a day ago.

The Swiss franc saw gains of 5.58 rupees, closing at 335.85 compared to 330.27 from the previous session.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR lost 2.48 paisa, closing at 2.002 versus 1.9772 a day ago.

The Chinese Yuan gained 17.37 paisa, closing at 39.68 against 39.5 from the previous session.

The Saudi Riyal closed at 75.18 with a loss of 6.51 paisa from its values of 75.24 a day ago.

The U.A.E Dirham decreased in value by 8.1 paisa from 76.76 a day ago to 76.84.

During the current financial year, PKR has appreciated against the Dollar by 4.06 rupees or 1.44%. While the current calendar year has seen PKR depreciate by 55.5 rupees or 19.69%.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 6 bps to 21.25 and 21.5%.

Furthermore, The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an Open Market Operation (OMO) through which it cumulatively injected Rs1.8 trillion at a rate of 22.05%.
