PKR falls 5 paisa against USD

January 07, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) weakened by 4.62 paisa or 0.02% against the US dollar in Tuesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.67 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.62.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.70 and a low (ask) of 278.65.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 278.50 for buying and 280 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR fell 2.44 rupees or 0.85% against the Euro, closing at 290.30 compared to the previous value of 287.86.

Against the British Pound, PKR decreased by 2.73 rupees or 0.79% to 349.81 compared to 347.08 a day ago.

The local unit weakened 1.19 rupees or 0.39% against Swiss franc to close at 308.12.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value weakened 0.22 paisa or 0.12% to close the session at 1.7690 versus 1.7668 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee decreased 1.80 paisa or 0.05% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.03 from 38.01.

The local currency deteriorated by 3.20 paisa or 0.04% against Saudi Riyal to 74.23. While it decreased by 1.25 paisa or 0.02% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.87.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has fell against the US Dollar by 32.61 paisa or 0.12%. While it has weakened 11.73 paisa or 0.04% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 3bps to 11.77% and 12.02%.
