Bank deposits increase 8.5% to Rs35.5tr in Jun

July 15, 2025 (MLN): The total deposits held by scheduled banks have moved up by 8.5% to Rs35.5 trillion in June compared to Rs32.72tr by the end of last month.

When compared to the same month of last year, banks' deposits have risen by 14.1%, compared to Rs31.12tr held in June 2024, data released by the central bank showed.

Total advances increased by 3.8% to Rs13.52tr compared to Rs13.02tr a month ago. Meanwhile, advances increased by 8.7% from their value of Rs12.43tr from a year ago.

As a result of strong inflow of deposits and weak momentum of advances, the Advances to Deposits Ratio (ADR) dropped to 38.1%, a decrease of 172 basis points on a monthly basis and a decrease of 186 bps on a yearly basis.

This reflects persistently weak private sector demand for bank credit amid subdued economic conditions as well as government’s high demand for bank financing to meet the budget deficit.

Total investments increased by 5.6% to Rs36.57tr from last month. While compared to last year, investments rose 21.2%.

Investment to Deposit Ratio (IDR) moved down by 282bps to 103.0% compared to last month and increased by 608 bps when compared to a year ago.
