PKR falls 16 paisa against USD

January 21, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 16.32 paisa or 0.06% against the US dollar in Tuesday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 278.82 per USD, compared to previous closing of 278.65.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 278.80 and a low (ask) of 278.75.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.50 for buying and 281.3 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR weakened 1.67 rupees or 0.58% against the Euro, closing at 289.01 compared to the previous value of 287.33.

Against the British Pound, PKR decreased by 1.50 rupees or 0.44% to 341.54 compared to 340.04 a day ago.

The local unit weakened 1.51 rupees or 0.49% against Swiss franc to close at 306.71.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value decreased 0.54 paisa or 0.30% to close the session at 1.7899 versus 1.7845 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee decreased 21.87 paisa or 0.57% against Chinese Yuan to close at 38.30 from 38.08.

The local currency depreciated by 4.15 paisa or 0.06% against Saudi Riyal to 74.31. While it fell by 4.44 paisa or 0.06% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 75.91.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has fell against the US Dollar by 47.43 paisa or 0.17%. While it has depreciated 26.55 paisa or 0.10% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched down by 3bps to 11.63% and 11.88%.
