PKR gains 3 paisa against USD, settles at 276.87

October 20, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened against the US dollar in the interbank market on Tuesday, gaining 3.08 paisa to close at Rs276.87, compared with the previous session’s closing rate of Rs276.90.

During the session, the dollar recorded a high bid of Rs276.90 and a low ask of Rs276.85.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs277.00 for buying and Rs279.70 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee posted mixed movements. It weakened by 14.54 paisa, or 0.05%, against the euro, which closed at Rs310.57 compared with Rs310.42 in the previous session.

The local currency also depreciated by 62.35 paisa, or 0.17%, against the British pound, settling at Rs369.50 against the previous close of Rs368.88.

Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated by 9.84 paisa, or 0.03%, against the Swiss franc to close at Rs335.70.

Against the Japanese yen, the local currency gained 0.01 paisa, or 0.01%, with the exchange rate settling at Rs1.7511 compared with Rs1.7512 a day earlier.

The rupee weakened by 1.61 paisa, or 0.04%, against the Chinese yuan to close at Rs41.46 from Rs41.44 in the previous session.

Against the Saudi riyal, the local currency depreciated by 2.13 paisa, or 0.03%, to settle at Rs73.81. Conversely, it gained 0.43 paisa against the UAE dirham, closing at Rs75.39.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by Rs1.29, or 0.47%, against the US dollar. Its gain against the greenback has reached Rs3.25, or 1.17%, since the start of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates declined by one basis point each to 12.18% and 12.43%, respectively.
