Pakistan records FDI of $270.9m in May

June 21, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan has recorded a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of $270.9m in May, compared to an FDI worth $155.7m in the Same Period Last Year (SPLY), the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.

Comparison on a month-on-month basis shows that the country reported an investment of $358.8m in the previous month.

Cumulatively in 11MFY24, the country fetched an FDI of $1.73bn against the $1.5bn attracted in the Same Period Last fiscal year.

Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $339.1m, up by 66.47% YoY, while the outflow increased to $68.2m, up by over 42.38% YoY.

Concerning portfolio investment under FDI, an inflow of $34.9m was witnessed through equity securities as compared to an outflow of $14.1m in May 2023.

The foreign private investment into the country amounted to a positive $305.8m in May 2024, as compared to private investment worth $141.6m recorded in May 2023.

Meanwhile, with respect to foreign public investment, an inflow of $205.6m was witnessed during the review month through equity securities.

Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $511.4m, compared to an investment of $140.6m in May 2023.

On a cumulative basis, within 11MFY24, the total foreign investment stood at $1.17bn as compared to foreign investment of $482m reported in the corresponding period last year.
