February 22, 2024 (MLN): Pakistan has disbursed a total of $7.3 billion as debt and interest payments during the six months ended on December 31, 2023 (1HFY24).

The breakdown of this payment shows that principal payments stood at $4.6bn, while the remaining $2.7bn were incurred as interest payments on the debt.

In the last quarter of 2023 (2QFY24) the country made principal payments of $2.58bn and $1.54bn as interest payments, bringing the total payment to $4.12bn.

It is crucial to mention here that the government's revenue collection in 1HFY24 stood at Rs4.8bn, out of which a payment of Rs4.2bn as domestic debt repayment.

In FY23, a total of $20.822bn was paid for both principal and interest obligations on the country.
