Over 1000MW electricity from renewable sources to be added by 2018 end: AEDB

Over 1000 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources including solar, wind and sugarcane bagasse will be added to the system in the next one and a half year. In an interview, Alternative Energy Development Board's (AEDB) Chief Executive Officer Amjad Ali Awan said currently the installed capacity of renewable energy is 1350 megawatts.

About ninety to ninety-five per cent of this capacity was installed by the present government. He said our plans are to enhance this capacity to 2300 to 2400 megawatts by the end of next year. He said the installed capacity of wind is 790 megawatts which will be taken to 1240 megawatts while the target for sugarcane bagasse is 800 megawatts from the current 160 megawatts.
