July 02, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) rose to $14.51 billion as of June 30, 2025, up $5.12bn from a year earlier, according to provisional data issued by SBP today.

The increase reflected an improved current account position and the successful realization of planned external inflows over the fiscal year.

Last week, data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed holdings fell by $2.66bn, or 22.7% WoW, to $9.06bn in the period ended June 20. The drop was mainly due to external debt repayments.

It is important to mention that the Central Bank snapped up $6.8bn from the interbank market between June 2024 and March 2025 to bolster its foreign exchange reserves and meet external debt obligations.

In March alone, the central bank purchased $860 million. The move is part of efforts to achieve a $14bn reserves target by the close of FY25 on June 30.
