Power generation rises 1% YoY in December 2024

January 20, 2025 (MLN): The total power generation in the country increased by 1% to 7,800 GWh during December as compared to 7,726 GWh in the same month of last year.

According to the monthly electricity generation data released by the National Electric Power Authority (NEPRA), the total power generation decreased by 3% MoM compared to 8,032 GWh in November 2024.

On a cumulative basis, in 6MFY25, electricity generation stood at 66,641 GWh, down 3% YoY compared to the generation of 68,982 in 6MFY24.

Production of Coal (local) and Hydel production declined by 40% and 4% respectively, while Nuclear, RLNG, Solar, and Gas saw significant increases by 41%, 27%, 23%, and 16% respectively with bagasse remaining unchanged.

Share-wise, Nuclear held the majority share of electricity generation during the month, clocking in at 26.5%.

This was followed by Hydel with 22.8%, RLING with 20.7%, Gas with 12.3%, and Coal (local) with 10.1%.

Cumulatively, Hydel took the lead in electricity generation with a share of 35.1% in 6MFY25.

RLING followed at 17.5%, with Nuclear contributing 16.4%, Coal (local) at 11.1%, and Gas at 8.6%.
