January 23, 2025 (MLN): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is seeking public comments on a request by Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) to extend its generation license.

KAPCO is seeking to renew its license for a portion of its 1600 MW power plant, specifically for 550 MW (net 500 MW).

The current license, which expired on September 21, 2024, had a term of 17 years. KAPCO has requested an extension of seven years.

According to the notice, KAPCO argues that extending the license for this portion of its plant is necessary too.

Align with the Integrated Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) 2024-34.

Ensure the plant's operation aligns with its remaining useful life.

Maintain system reliability and stability.

NEPRA has invited the public to submit their comments on KAPCO's request within a specified timeframe.

This notice highlights NEPRA's commitment to transparency and public participation in the decision-making process regarding power generation licenses.
