February 19, 2025 (MLN): A series of transformative infrastructure projects, including the much-anticipated Narowal-Muridke Road Phase II, were unveiled at a high-profile development event in Narowal by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal.

This 75km-long project is set to enhance road connectivity between key districts, ensuring seamless transportation for businesses, farmers, and commuters.

As part of a broader initiative to modernize Punjab’s road network, the project underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing regional mobility and economic growth.

The government’s phased and sustainable approach to infrastructure development is evident, with the first phase of the Narowal-Muridke Road already completed at a cost of Rs500 million.

Additionally, Rs28bn has been allocated for the construction and rehabilitation of various roads across Narowal, ensuring continuous progress in the district’s transport facilities.

Among the completed projects is the 36km-long Narowal-Shakargarh Road, built at a cost of Rs1.6bn, which now serves as a vital link between cities and facilitates trade and commerce.

Another major project announced was the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway Link Road, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and improving access to economic hubs.

Such projects reflect the government’s vision of an integrated and efficient transport network, crucial for boosting trade and industrial activities.

Beyond infrastructure, the government has prioritized education and public welfare initiatives.

The foundation stone for Narowal Medical College has been laid, with a commitment to completing the Rs4.4bn project within two years.

This institution will not only benefit local students but also attract talent from across Punjab, positioning Narowal as a center for medical education and research.

Similarly, the Narowal Children’s Learning Park, set to be completed within two years at a cost of Rs100 million, and the Rs1bn Narowal Circular Road project will contribute to urban development and improved public services in the district.

Reflecting on past challenges, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal highlighted that between 2018 and 2022, Pakistan’s economic growth suffered setbacks due to halted infrastructure projects, rising inflation, and governance challenges.

Narowal, like many other districts, witnessed delays in key projects during this period, according to the press release issued today.

However, under the incumbent government, renewed momentum has been injected into development initiatives, ensuring steady progress.

The minister further outlined the government’s broader achievements in infrastructure and economic growth, citing the expansion of Pakistan’s motorway network, modernization of airports, resolution of power shortages, and counterterrorism efforts as key milestones.

He also emphasized the transformative role of CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) in attracting foreign investment and creating employment opportunities, significantly reshaping the country’s economic landscape.

As the government continues implementing its ambitious development agenda, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal urged the public to remain hopeful and actively support initiatives that drive national progress.
