Motorcycle, three-wheeler sales surge 22.2% YoY in May

June 11, 2024 (MLN): Motorcycles and three-wheeler sales in Pakistan increased by 22.25% YoY in May 2024 to 118,811 units compared to 97,189 units in the same month of last year, the latest data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) showed today.

Likewise, on a month-on-month basis, the sales were recorded at 10.43% MoM higher compared to the 107,590 units sold in April 2024.

Cumulatively, in 11MFY24, sales of the respective category clocked in at 1,060,217 units, 3.97% YoY lower compared to 1,104,028 units sold in 11MFY23.

The total production of Motorcycles and three-wheelers in Pakistan was recorded at 120,559 units in May, up by 17.93% YoY compared to 102,229 units made in the same month of last year.

On a monthly basis, the production comparison reflects a similar trend, with production rising by 22.79% MoM. In the previous month, 98,183 Motorcycles and three-wheelers were manufactured in the country.

Honda continued to solidify its position as the dominant industry leader, with sales of 103,297 units, taking its market share to 86.94% in May 2024.

The brand's sales reflect a growth figure of 8.65% compared to the previous month and 18.55% compared to the topline recorded in May 2023.

The second and third leaders on the list were United Auto Motorcycle and Sazgar Three Wheeler, with sales figures of 9,131 and 1,962 units respectively in May 2024.

Following closely, Suzuki sold 1,696 bikes in the review month, up 0.71% MoM, while 2.1x times higher compared to May 2023.

In 11MFY24, Honda's sales were recorded at 923,049 units, compared to 930,352 units sold in 11MFY23.

Trucks & Buses

The data released by PAMA shows that 203 trucks were sold in May, up 78.07% YoY, while 2.53% higher compared to April 2024.

In the ongoing fiscal year (11MFY24), 1,950 trucks were sold, down by 36.59% YoY compared to the cumulative data for the previous fiscal year.

Meanwhile, the production clocked in at 263 in May, and 1,957 units in 11MFY24.

ISUZU emerged at the top of sales and production in this segment, with 111 units sold and 130 produced in May 2024.

With respect to buses, sales ticked up by 12.82% YoY and stood at 44 units in May 2024, compared to 39 units in May 2023.

This takes the total of bus and truck sales to 247 units, compared to 229 units in the previous month and 153 in the same month last year.
