Meat exports rise 24.4% YoY in 10MFY24

May 21, 2024 (MLN): Meat and meat preparations exports from the country during the first 10 months of the current financial year grew by 24.37% as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of the last year, as APP reported.

During the period from July-April 2023-24, over 104,513 metric tons of meat and meat products valued at $430.74 million were exported as compared to the exports of 80,423 metric tons worth $346.33m in the same period of last year.

However, exports of fish and fish preparation during the period under review decreased by 15.74% as it was registered at 167,345 metric tons valued at $342.15m, according to the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Over 173,550 metric tons of fish and fish products worth $406.09m were exported in the first 10 months of the last financial year.

During the period from July-April 2023-24, the food group exports witnessed about 45.61% growth as food commodities valued at $6.23 billion were exported as against the exports of $4.28bn in the same period of the last year.

On the other hand, the imports of food goods into the country during the period under review went down by 12.18% as it was recorded at $6.82bn as compared to the imports of $7.76bn in the same period of last year.

On month on month basis, the imports of food commodities grew by 22.82% as food commodities costing $527.03m were imported in April 2024 as compared to the imports of $429.11m of the same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, over 5.1m metric tons of rice worth $3.28bn were exported as compared to the exports of 3.27m metric tons valued at $1.82bn in 10MFY23.

The exports of basmati rice grew by 34.01% as 612,086 metric tons of basmati rice worth $699.21m were exported as compared to the exports of 486,998 metric tons valued at $521.75m of the same period last year.

Meanwhile, over 4.47m metric tons of rice of other varieties worth $2.58bn were also exported in last 10 months as against the exports of 2.78m metric tons valued at $1.3bn of the same period of last year, the data revealed.
