Imports into Pakistan rise by 28.89% MoM in September

October 19, 2020 (MLN): The overall imports into Pakistan during the month of September 2020 amounted to Rs. 716.7 billion, showing an increase of 28.89% against Rs. 556 billion in August 2020 and 21.86% as compared to Rs. 588.1 billion in September 2019.

According to the provisional figures compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in terms of US dollars, the imports in September 2020 were $4.3 billion, showing an increase of 30.31% as compared to $3.3 billion in August, 2020 and by 14.74% as compared to $3.7 billion in September 2019.

Imports during July – September 2020 totaled Rs. 1.88 trillion, showing an increase of 6.77%. as against Rs. 1.76 trillion reported during the corresponding period of last year.

In terms of US dollars, the imports during July – September 2020 totaled $11.3 billion, showing an increase of 1.00%. as against $11.1 billion during the corresponding period of last year.

Main commodities of imports during September 2020 were Petroleum products (Rs. 62.3 billion), Petroleum crude (Rs. 41.2 billion), Palm Oil (Rs. 37.5 billion), Plastic Materials (Rs. 31.2 billion), Mobile phones (Rs. 30.9 billion), Iron and Steel scrap (Rs. 29.9 billion), Power generating machinery (Rs. 26.2 billion), Iron & steel (Rs. 24.9 billion), Natural gas, liquefied (Rs. 24.3 billion) and Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs. 19.8 billion).
