Govt imposes 25% tax on imported mobile phones

July 25, 2024 (MLN): The government will charge a 25% sales tax on the import of mobile phones in completely built up (CBU) condition having a value above $500, according to the updated Sales Tax Act 1990 issued on Tuesday.

Moreover, the government will charge an 18% sales tax for imported semi-built and locally manufactured completely built mobile phones.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Tuesday issued the Sales Tax Act, 1990 amended up to June 30, 2024. The amendments have made through the Finance Act, 2024.

Meanwhile, a flat 18% sales tax will be charged on all mobile phones up to the value of $500 for the three categories of imported completely built, imported semi-built, and locally manufactured completely built.
