January 9, 2019: In a bid to provide gas facility to remote and hilly areas especially where transmission network of SNGPL and SSGC does not exist, the government is encouraging to set up Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)-air mix plants.

For the current fiscal year, the government has set a target of installing 33 such plants at designated places, out of which three would be established by the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) in Gilgit and Chitral, while 30 by the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) in Balochistan province, official sources told APP.

The government would also facilitate private sector in establishment of the LPG-air mix plants.

The plants are aimed at providing gas facility to the population in the areas where facility of natural gas is not available and discouraging deforestation. “At the plants, the LPG will be mixed with air to produce synthetic gas for onward supply to the consumers through distribution networks like natural gas,” the sources said.
