Foreign inflows in government securities surge to $52.34 million during ongoing month

June 28, 2020 (MLN): Pakistan witnessed net inflow of $31.42 million by foreign investors via Special Convertible Rupee Account (SCRA) on June 25, 2020.

The total inflows in Treasury bills (T-Bills) during the day recorded at $14.3 million whereas, inflows in PIBs logged at $20.34 million. These investments in a single day had been injected by UK investors.

By virtue of these fresh inflows, the total foreign investment in government denominated securities (T-bills and PIBs) during the ongoing month has been increased to $52.34 million with zero outflow recorded so far.

Country- wise, the highest investment during the month was made my UK investors, as they poured $44.57 million in T-bills and PIBs, followed by US investors with the investment of $7.7 million.

Cumulatively, from July to date, foreigners have poured $3.66 billion in T-bills, out of which $3 billion has been withdrawn, indicating that $600 million remained in T-bills.

With regards to PIBs, the total foreign inflow from July 2019 to date has been recorded at $119.9 million, out of which $45.42 million has been extracted so far.

This suggests that since July, cumulatively foreigners invested $3.78 billion in Government Securities (T-bills and PIBs) out of which $3.11 billion has been withdrawn, bringing the total net inflows to settle at $674.49 million.
